Hammerite Rust Beater Review
Have some rust that you need to get rid of? You will have no doubt seen that there are tons of products available for this exact purpose. Hammerite are one of the biggest names in the metal painting business and their no.1 rust beater has been around for a long, long time.
But is it any good? Well, there is only one way to know for sure. I headed over to Amazon and ordered a tin, found some rusty metal and got some testing done. let’s look through the results together.

Hammerite No.1 Rust Beater provides a high build finish to heavily pitted areas of rust and prevents new rust from forming. It is compatible with most topcoats and can be applied directly onto rust: kills rust, primes and undercoats. Simply apply two coats, allowing 6 hours between coats to get a corrosion-resistant finish.
Painting With Hammerite Rust Beater
Painting with this paint is really easy, it is nice and thick and so covers really well. Before painting, I used a wire brush to give the rust a really good scrub in order to remove any loose material.
The paint went onto the rust really well, it had no problem at all being painted direct to rust, which is essential I guess!

Fully Painted
So here we have the rusty metal now fully painted, this was a really simple process. The paint is really easy to work with due to it being so thick.

Finishing
So now we have all the rust coated it is time to paint over it. I am using Hammerite smooth black spray paint for this.

Will it stop rust from coming back
Now the last test left is to see if this has actually killed the rust or just covered it.
So to try and test this I moved the sample back outside. I will be back regularly with updates so you can see how it is doing!
