Why is my washing machine shaking like crazy?
So your washing machine is shaking around like crazy, you obviously want to get that fixed quickly. I won’t mess about with a load of fluff and filler here and will instead get straight down to the most common reasons for a shaking washing machine.
Is the machine new? Or have you recently moved?
If the washing machine is brand new or you have just moved then you may well have left the transit bolts inside it. These bolts are fitted to the machine when new and also should be put back in when you move. The bolts stop the springs and dampeners of the machine from moving, this stops it from moving about while being transported.
Once it is in use though these bolts must be removed. Otherwise, all of the suspension inside the machine cannot move at all which can lead to it bouncing around the room. if this is the case and you have run the machine you may be wondering what damage you could have done, well I have a full article on that here: What Happens if You Leave Transit Bolts in a Washing Machine?
Can you “rock” the machine with your hands?
If so then the floor is uneven and this could be what is causing your machine to shake like crazy. Some machines have adjustable feet which you can change the height on in order to get it flat.
If your machine doesn’t have feet then there are other things you can do. If you have just lost the feet then replacements can be bought on Amazon.
If the machine just never had them though or if the feet are stuck in place then look at rubber dampeners.

If the rock is excessive then you may need to think about moving the machine or trying to level it out in other ways. Building a small platform for the machine to sit on can be a great way to get it perfectly level.
Still having problems?
If you are still having problems with your machine then I’m afraid it is looking like it is something more serious. If you don’t fancy getting your hands dirty then find a local appliance fixer and give them a call. If you don’t mind a tinker though then there are a few things to look for.
Over vibrating during use is usually caused by a couple of things. The first thing to do is unplug the machine and then take the top off to have a look inside.
To start with try and have a look at the concrete counterweight, this could have cracked or broken which could be causing the vibration.
Then give all of the springs a visual check if possible, has anything snapped or come loose?
If everything looks okay then it may be the bearings, you can order replacement ones online. I can’t say how easy they will be to fit as this changes with every machine.
