Can you use a plumbed in fridge freezer without plumbing it in?
If you are planning on moving your plumbed in fridge freezer then you might be wondering if it needs to be plumbed in at its new location?
The short answer is no, it doesn’t need to be plumbed in. The fridge and freezer will still work perfectly without being plumbed in.
When a fridge freezer is plumbed in the plumbing has nothing to do with the standard operation of the fridge or freezer. The plumbing will be there to provide water to either an ice maker or cold water dispenser.
So if you run the fried without it being plumbed in it will work but your water or ice dispenser, whichever it may be, will not.
What if you want to use the water/ice dispenser?
If you have no plumbing where the freezer is going but still want to use the water dispenser or ice maker then there are a couple of options open to you.
One option is using a water tank next to the fridge which you manually refill whenever it gets low.
This will not work with every fridge, it all depends on how it draws the water. If your fridge uses a pump then it will be fine and will be able to suck up the water using the pump.
If however, it relies on the mains pressure to get the water into the fridge then it will not be able to pump it up from the tank.
The other option is to simply extend the water supply to the machine. This can be done DIY but if you don’t feel comfortable taking up the floor and laying some new water piping then get a professional in to do this for you.
