Do You Need to Lacquer Hammerite?

Hammerite is a fantastic metal, and actually, multi-surface, paint. It can offer a lot of protection to anything it covers. But even if it does offer protection do you need to add lacquer on top of Hammerite?

In my opinion, and this can only really be answered by an opinion, you don’t need to lacquer Hammerite. The paint itself offers fantastic protection for metals.

It also adds a lot of protection to other surfaces, even wood as you can see in my can you paint Hammerite on wood article.

Hammerite also has a very shiny finish by itself, so you dont need the lacquer to make it shiny.

There are also dangers with lacqueirng. Hammerite has been known to react with clear lacquers, destrying the finish.

If You Decide To Laquer

If you do decide to lacquer on top of the Hammerite, and there are various reasons why you might want to beyond protecting the paint, then you need to make sure it’s dry.

If the Hammerite paint has not fully cured then there is a high chance it could react with the lacquer and destroy all of your hard work.

I have the drying times for all the Hammerite versions below, but in all honesty, I would be tempted to wait around 24 hours, ensuring it is fully cured.
