Self-Levelling Compound Tools
Here I will give you a list of tools you might need when applying a self-levelling compound. It is easy to use self-levelling yourself because it spreads around the room naturally finding its own level. All you need to do is help spread it around to get a professional-looking finish. If you have all these tools available at your disposal you should be able to self-level like a Pro.
Buckets for Self-Levelling Compound
It’s even better if you have some old buckets lying around. But think twice before you go and borrow someone else’s buckets. Just bare in mind you might have to throw them away afterwards.
Self-levelling compound is designed to set fast so that professional contractors can start laying the finished floor covering as soon as possible.
The buckets below are just the right size to comfortably mix a 25kg bag of self-levelling compound in.
Self-Levelling Compound Trowel
Any smoothing trowel will do, But if you do not possess one and you dare not borrow one. I have attached a link to a good one below.
Even a square-edged trowel will do, but this pointed nose trowel just helps you to spread the self-levelling compound right into the tight corners.
As long as you look after it, a good trowel will last a good few years just remember to give it a good wash-off afterwards.
Self-Levelling Compound Whisk
A whisk is probably the most essential tool in your arsenal, for a successful self-levelling pour. They can fit into a standard cordless drill chuck. As long as you wash them off afterwards you can keep them for any future whisking tasks. Who knows what you might need to whisk in the future?
Self-Levelling compound Spiked Roller
Whisking does a great job of mixing the self-levelling compound together and it is essential to the process. However much like when you are whisking a cake, it can add air bubbles into the mix. You can remove pesky air bubbles whilst spreading out the self-levelling compound if you use a spiked roller.
You might also need a handle, unless you have a few broken brooms kicking about. If you start spreading your self-levelling compound at the back of the room and slowly roll your way out, you should be fine with a 4ft handle.
Self-Levelling Compound Spiked Shoes
You can use spiked shoes when applying your self-levelling compound however I just prefer to use an old pair of trainers. As long as you start spreading your self-levelling compound at the back of the room and work your way out. There should be no reason to walk back across it. The problem with spiked shoes happens when you come off the self-levelled floor and have to take them off. I just use trainers as they are more comfortable and you can always bin them afterwards!
