Hammerite also offers primers but we haven’t included those in this mega guide as they are intended to be painted over. As such the colour is not that important!

Hammerite is most famous for its direct to rust metal paints. These are available in a range of colours but also a range of finish styles. There is smooth, hammered and satin. Smooth is the standard gloss finish. Hammered has a hammered metal look and finally satin is a more matte finish than the smooth. This is a smooth gloss finish that will retain its sheen for years. As always it is a durable, corrosion-resistant decorative coating for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

More Smooth Colours – Mixing

So here are a whole group of extra colours that the Hammerite smooth metal paint is available in. You are probably now wondering why didn’t I just include these in the list above?

Well, the short answer is that these are only available through colour mixing booths. You can find these at Hammerite mixing desks in DIY stores but unfortunately, I don’t have a list of locations for you.

Hammerite Satin Colours

This is a subtle satin smooth finish that provides a low sheen alternative to Hammerite Smooth Finish. As is to be expected from Hammerite, this is a durable, corrosion-resistant decorative coating for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Hammerite Ultima Colours Banner

Hammerite Ultima Colours

Ultima is Hammerites new paint. Unlike its other paints, Hammerite ultima is water-based. It is still a metal paint and it is still intended to be applied directly to rust.  It provides a highly durable decorative finish for up to 12 years. Suitable for application on gates, railings, garden furniture and all type of outdoor metal.

  1. Really helpful info. I assume Hammerite’s warning that white spirit WONT work is simply brand protection…..I think they really mean they wont guarantee it.
    I dont see the difference between garage (more flexible?) and standard paints……I had 1/2 a tin of both in black so combined them…….so far so good.
