Where Are Magnusson Tools Made?
Pop into any B&Q or Screwfix store and you will undoubtedly find lots of Magnusson branded tools. But who are Magnusson and where are their tools made?
So Where Are They Made?
Whenever I have been able to find a manufacturing stamp on any of the Magnusson tools I have seen or own, yes I do have some of their tools, then I have always found that they have been made in China.
Some Detective Work
I decided to nip down to my local B&Q and do a little snooping on different Magnusson tools to see if I could see where they were manufactured.
Above we have a Magnusson tape measure which is made in China and below we have a trowel which is again made in China.
This is no surprise when you look at the price of these tools. Magnusson tools are really affordable and tend to be one of the cheaper options whether in Screwfix or B&Q.
And there are those two stores again, have you noticed that you have never seen Magnusson tools anywhere else?
Well, there is probably a good reason for that. Both B&Q and Screwfix are owned by the same massive company, Kingfisher PLC.
So it looks, to me at least, and from the packaging, that Magnusson tools are simply a B&Q and Screwfix own brand, which is why you only find them in those stores.
This is a very common practice and is done by all of the DIY stores and another such example would be Screwfix again with their Erbauer range of tools, which surprise surprise, you also find in B&Q.
Are Magnusson Tools Any Good?
So we know where they are made but are they any good? Well, yes and no. They are about as good as you could expect for the price really.
I have never been disappointed by them but my experience is limited and I never bought them expecting much.
They are cheap tools that do the job, but not much more than that. If that is the mindset that you buy these tools with then you won’t be disappointed.
If you buy them expecting a quality tool that will last and last then you will probably end up a little disappointed.
Should You Buy Them?
Again this is a classic, “it depends”. Are the tools going to be crucial to you or your business? If so then I would probably say buy something a little more upmarket.
But is it going to be a tool you use every now and again or one that you need right now but might not need again? In that case, I would say go ahead and buy them.
They are cheap and the tools I have bought and used infrequently from Magnusson are still working just fine now many years later.
But as I said earlier, if I was really dependent on these tools then I would invest in something a little more premium.
What Tools Does Magnussen Make?
They make a very wide range of mainly hand tools. So stuff like tape measures, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers etc.
As far as I can tell they don’t make power tools and this brand is just used for hand tools. That doesn’t mean the range isn’t wide though, if it is a common tool then there is very likely a Magnusson version available.
